Some of the events and initiatives we have supported:

Macquarie Credit Union Dream Festival

Macquarie Credit Union is a proud supporter of the Dubbo Regional Entertainment Arts and Music Festival (DREAM). This celebration of local arts, music and culture is a spectacular family friendly event and a welcome boost for tourism, drawing visitors to Dubbo NSW from all over Australia. It boasts a record 22,000 visitors in 2019, prior to the pandemic. The festival, presented by the Dubbo Regional Council, celebrates everything creative Dubbo has to offer. It encourages connection within the wider community and illuminates Dubbo City for everyone to enjoy, through its ever popular lantern parade event and bold illuminated art installations.

Dubbo Stampede

This popular community event is an inclusive sporting event held annually to encourage community health and well-being by running, walking or wheeling, around Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo NSW. Macquarie Credit Union has been supporting the Dubbo Stampede Running Festival for more than a decade.
In 2021, the Macquarie Credit Union Schools’ Challenge was created to encourage school student, faculty and family participation in the Dubbo Stampede with prizes for schools with the highest number of registered participants. The younger students showed their support through colouring-in competitions and won goodie bags from Macquarie Credit Union.

Our unwavering partnership has assisted the volunteer committee to proceed through recent pandemic challenges with the Dubbo Stampede being run virtually in both 2020 and 2021, before proudly returning to a live event again in 2022 and plans for 2023 well in progress.

Holland’s Open Garden and Memory Makers Art Prize

Macquarie Credit Union’s Partnership fund assisted to establish the Holland’s Open Garden and Memory Makers Art Prize and supported its fundraiser for Dementia event in 2021 & 2022.

Dubbo was without a local art prize for a number of years, and local artists Lorraine Holland and Laura Dunkley (nee Holland) sought the assistance of Macquarie Credit Union to fund a new art prize in support of the bustling Dubbo art community, whilst simultaneously fundraising for Dementia.

The new local Art Prize provides a creative opportunity for artists to create artwork based on the theme “Memory Makers”, which encourages artists to tap into their memories and create a connection with the audience. The initiative promotes discussion and awareness of the debilitating disease Dementia, and the impact it has on its sufferers, families and the Australian community. So far this initiative has donated over $30,000 to the Dementia Australia Research Foundation and $2,000 towards Dementia Services in Dubbo NSW 2830. The Art Prize has been well received by the community with 55 entries on exhibition in 2022.

Dubbo Black Dog Ride

Macquarie Credit Union has partnered with the Dubbo Black Dog Ride for more than 7 years, joining the national Australia-wide quest to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention. The event sought to create awareness by riding from Dubbo to Collie with a stop- over at Narromine.

The 2023 Dubbo Black Dog Ride recorded 355 registered motorcycle and pillion riders, and engaged with approximately 600 locals on route Collie NSW, via Narromine. Macquarie Credit Union provided funding for Tradies in Sight, a Dubbo based mental health support service to facilitate a discussion on mental health and well-being, amplifying the Black Dog Ride’s core awareness message. The 2023 ride resulted in an impressive $6,000 raised for the Black Dog Ride Australian Community Grants Fund.

The event is organized and presented by the Songwriters and Original Musicians Association of Dubbo (SOMAD) a grassroots not-for-profit association founded by Dubbo musicians with the aim of transforming Dubbo in to a music city. Macquarie Credit Union has supported this event since 2019, which has grown in popularity since then.
